Isn't That a Socialist Fist On Your T-shirt?>

A George Washington University student comments about our Revolution Roots design:

"You idiots. The hand holding the rose is the logo for the American Socialist Democrats. Someone needs to do their research."
Idiot? That’s a very disappointing statement by the student from Washington. Maybe the young man should transfer out of GWU, as the manners of the D.C. sadists--I mean statists--are obviously rubbing off on him. I recommend Auburn.

As for the image in question, the similarity is largely unimportant, and a matter of coincidence. Socialists, being the dullard collectivist drones they are, have no ownership of the symbolism of the raised fist, rose, America, roots, or any combination thereof.
The rose and the fist, of course, is used as a symbol by many Socialist and Social Democratic parties in Europe, like the Rose in the Fist Party (Rosa nel Pugno) of Italy--which I think changed it's name to something else last year.
The statist representation uses red to symbolize the blood spilt by workers in the fight for their emancipation. Red was taken from the red banner flown at the Paris Commune, the original symbol of the communist cause. After the 1886 Haymarket Affair, socialists and trade unionists may have began wearing red roses or carnations on their lapels to show solidarity with these guys.
The employment of the fist and rose by socialists is usually graphically impotent and even perplexing. The socialist image used today (above) is geometric, horizontally oriented, shallow, and lame. To me it doesn’t say anything of other than, ‘Here, have a rose from this boxy 1970s , Charley Brown hand.’
Ours, if I may say so myself, is dynamic, evocative, germane, creative, and looks better on a t-shirt.
People understand what it means at a glance. The raised vertical fist is an age old symbol of resistance and strength, which anyone that has gotten their fingernails dirty campaigning for Dr. Paul these last 12 months knows is certainly relevant. The GOP has bent, changed, and ignored the rules to try and stop paulites, while the mainstream media complex has conspired to blackout Ron Paul and his message.
The rose is love. Socialists don’t love of course, they domineer. At least in the political sense this is the case. The Ron Paul Revolution, however, is a different story.

Our revolution is one of love. Love for the liberty and dignity of each individual. Love of freedom, law, progress, cooperation, and true order created not by what the socialists worship—coercive political power and violent force—but by human action spurred on by free choice, reason, and the propriety of civil society.

The long, strong roots through America, emanating from the hand and rose should leave no doubt as to what it represents considering the forum I’m writing on. The Ron Paul Revolution is real grass roots. People acting cooperatively, spontaneously, and locally for the purpose of liberty.
So I thank Mr. Baumann of GWU for giving me the opportunity to explain my art. I actually appreciate it.
Here’s a link to Auburn University’s Admissions office. The Ludwig von Mises Institute is right there, so what could be better? Washington D.C. is a bad influence on men young and old.
